Porto midfield duo, Joao Moutinho and Jay Rodriguez, have completed
their blockbuster moves to newly promoted French Ligue 1 side, Monaco.
Reigning
Portuguese Champions Porto confirmed the moves on their website and
revealed that the Principality club paid £38.5m for highly-rated 21
year-old Rodriguez and £21.5m for 26 year-old Moutinho.
Both
players have played key roles for their now former-club Porto over the
past few seasons and their performances have seen them linked with
big-money moves to the Premier League but those moves haven’t
materialised and Monaco have stepped in to fill the void by snatching
the two players on five-year deals.
Monaco have widely been
expected to spend big this summer after they were bought by Russian
billionaire, Dmitry Rybololev, earlier in the season and this’ll
probably be the first of many big moves to come as the board look to
improve the squad to such a standard that they’ll be taking on the likes
of PSG and Marseille in the race for the league title next season.
